A Review of MyProtein's Protein Shake and Protein Cookies

A workout with heavy weights wouldn't feel complete without a protein shake afterwards to help my muscles repair themselves.

Myprotein is quite possibly the most affordable brand of protein in the UK. Their whey protein powders come in 1kg bags for just £12.79, 2.5kg for £26.49 or a huge 5kg for just £46.79!

The Myprotein website features wide range of protein products, including whey powders, bars, cookies, muffins, instant oats, peanut butter and almond butter.

There's also a dairy-free range of protein powders from a wide range of sources, such as egg whites, pea, brown rice and hemp.

I've been testing the strawberry flavoured impact whey protein. When a 25g scoop of this is added to 150ml semi-skimmed milk (the tastiest way to drink it), it contains 27g of protein and 127 calories. The powders are available in an extensive range of flavours, including chocolate, strawberry raspberry, lemon, latte, banana and even chocolate with mint, orange or caramel. Also available to purchase from the website are shakers with metal mixing balls in them, which help create a really smooth shake.

In addition to the shake, I've also been chewing on white chocolate and almond protein cookies. These are an interesting alternative to regular shakes and protein bars and would be a good way to get a cookie fix without eating a whole pack of Tesco cookies only to feel guilty (and probably ill) afterwards.

I found these to be very filling and I could have easily managed  half the size for a post endurance workout snack. Nevertheless, they contain 35g of protein (no wonder I found it so filling!) and 317 calories. The cookie comes in four different flavours: white chocolate and almond; double chocolate chip flavour, chocolate orange and chocolate mint.  A box of 12 cookies costs £16.99, which is cheap relative to the cost of a box of 12 protein bars by other brands, which usually averages around £25.

Disclosure: I was sent this product to review, but as always my opinions are honest and my own
