Beauty Buzz: Brush on Block ®

Brush on Block
Summer's here! Well, not quite so much for the UK but it is that time when many of us have booked our slice of summer. We can only hope that there will be enough sun this year to ditch the treadmill for the streets, head to the courts for tennis or head to the country side for a hike. Either way, we need to have our sun protection ready in advance for when that sun does come out!

I'm sure you don't need a lecture on why it's so important, so I'll skip to the point where I show you a product that's perfect for facial use as it isn't sticky, greasy or pore-blocking. Oh, and it's a powder that you brush on!

Offering instant SPF 30 with both UVA and UVB protection, the Brush on Block® by Susan Posnick is a fast and convenient way to defend against the sun's harmful rays and environmental damage.

Unlike chemical sun creams which work by being absorbed into the skin, Brush On Block® features naturally-occurring active mineral ingredients that sit on top of your skin and reflect the sun’s rays away from your body. It'll even give your skin a added boost, as it contains green tea leaf extract, a natural antioxidant; safflower seed oil to moisturise the skin; and chamomile extract and honeysuckle that help prevent skin inflammation and irritation that may be caused by sun exposure.

Because it's a powder rather than a cream or spray, it not absorbed into the skin and doesn't contain any chemical ingredients. This means it's far less likely to irritate the skin or clog pores, making it ideal for people with acne-prone or sensitive skin. Moreover, it's sweat and water resistance, so sweat during your workout all you like, you'll still be protected!

The powder is stored at the bottom and is twisted to allow for the brush to self-dispense when shaken. If you're in a rush (who isn't these days?), you can always unscrew the bottom and dip the brush straight into it. The brush itself is made of lovely soft bristles so it's even nice to use for children, and it won't sting eyes!  It can even be used under or over make-up, I've swapped my regular powder for it for the duration of the summer months. Best of all, as the product is only small and comes with a plastic sleeve and lid (so you don't accidently protect the lining of you bag from sun damage instead), it's great to take everywhere for convenient top-ups throughout the day. Once empty, it can be refilled and the brush can also be washed with a tiny amount of shampoo and water.

Where to buy?

Brush on Block is priced at £23 and is available from April 2013 at John Bell & Croyden in store at 50-54 Wigmore Street, London, W1A 2AU and online at

received a free sample of the product  for the purpose of review but was not compensated in any other way. As always, opinions are my own!
